The WF Steenkamp Hornet is a masterclass in the South African style of custom knifemaking, known for combining “glassy” smooth action with a striking, multi-material aesthetic. This specific build is a “Full Dress” execution, utilizing a high-contrast dark palette that makes the exotic materials pop.

Mechanical Excellence: IKBS Pivot

The Hornet utilizes the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System).

• The Action: This system uses un-caged ball bearings that provide a frictionless, “rocket-like” deployment. Because the bearings roll directly on the hardened races, the action actually improves as the knife “breaks in” over time.

• The Detent: Steenkamp is celebrated for a crisp, firm detent that ensures the blade fires reliably with a simple light-switch flick of the flipper tab.

Premium Dress Materials

• Blade: Crafted from CPM-S90V with a hand-rubbed satin finish. S90V is a top-tier super steel that offers maximum edge retention and wear resistance.

• Bolsters & Clip: Outfitted in Black Timascus. This material is a titanium/zirconium laminate that, when heat-anodized, produces deep, dark, and iridescent patterns far more durable than standard titanium coloring.

• Scales & Accents: Both the handle scales and the pivot collars are made from Marble Carbon Fiber, creating a cohesive, organic texture across the entire handle profile.
